Located in the historic Fulton Market District, 1K Fulton is the new home of Google in a state-of-the-art LEED certified office and retail building. Built in 1923 as a cold storage warehousing facility, 1000 West Fulton Market Street was once the centerpiece of the meat and produce warehousing hub. The famous “Fulton Market Cold Storage” sign is still to this day is the tallest and most recognizable structure in the area. The transformation of the building provides a bike-friendly, transit-friendly, and sustainable mixed-use development. site design group, ltd., in conjunction with the Harthshorne Plunkard Architecture and Sterling Bay Companies, designed a large welcoming public plaza at the ground floor featuring reused elevator wheels from the building’s cold storage past, as well as an intensively landscaped roof garden with a barbecue area, conference table shaded by a trellis, and textural plantings and grasses throughout.
