Following MNLA’s highly successful design of the 72nd Street Subway Station, the firm was commissioned to design a 5,400 sf plaza to accommodate a new ADA accessible subway station along the same mass transit line on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The project creates a safe and inviting plaza within the Broadway Mall median with clear access and multiple seating opportunities for passengers.

MNLA designed the granite pavement pattern running from the main level of the station house and out into the entry plaza, creating a continuous urban carpet linking the indoor and outdoor spaces of this neighborhood transportation hub. Seating blocks of the same polychromatic granites line the walkway. Designed at varying heights, the seating blocks deter skateboarding in the busy entry plaza.
