This renovation of an existing beach house and garden celebrates the beautiful, fragile, and ever-changing dune landscape. The project sits on a quarter acre site close to neighboring houses in Amagansett, and is surrounded by bayberry, beach plum, pine and great stretches of beach grass. Cedar pallets rest directly on the sand and extend like fingers into the dune facing the ocean. Planting native material between these fingers creates a sense of continuity with the surrounding landscape. A terraced garden of blueberry and bayberry frames a view of the ocean, while additional plantings of grasses, shrubs, and evergreen trees stabilize the dune and screen the road and nearby houses.
