         Nestled in the Sanctuary courtyard of the First Presbyterian Church in Houston is a garden that celebrates life. The Memorial Garden consists of a circular path, stone wall, water feature, and seating—all of which work in conjunction to create a tranquil environment.

The circular brick path symbolizes the “Circle of Life” and allows visitors to access and experience the garden on an intimate level. The path contrasts dramatically with the grass, drawing the eye to the Memorial Wall, which visually slices through the center of the “Circle of Life.” One side of the travertine wall is engraved with a scriptural passage of great meaning to the church. The opposite side of the wall is engraved with the names of loved ones, creating a garden for solitude and reflection. Water spills from bronze scuppers that divide the wall, animating the space and soothing visitors.
