NBW worked with the architects, Fleetwood & Associates, and the clients from the outset of this second home project to site both a main house and a guest house within lushly planted gardens. The two houses were positioned on the deeply contoured 2½ acre property to take advantage of solar aspect, drainage patterns, and ocean views. Extensive stone site walls create terraces that extend living areas from inside to out. The infinity edge pool maximizes the grade change with a dramatic waterfall and lower basin where children enjoy splashing. Many of the garden plant introductions were inspired by the local beach and woodland plant communities and include: rugosa rose, goldenrod, and asters in the sunny borders; blueberries and native azaleas under the existing scrub oaks.
