Forty-two years ago the Biltmore Fashion Park was built as the outdoor shopping amenity for the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, a famous resort for movie stars and wealth entrepreneurs. Over time the center lost its appeal and retail sales plummeted 25%. It was time for this grand dame to get a face lift in order to compete with the newer shopping malls.

Modernizing was important but so was upholding the historic character of the mall too. New tenant spaces were fit around existing trees and historic brick pavers were salvaged and re-used in the landscape. Outdoor pedestrian corridors were improved with new plantings, decorative pots, architectural canopies, lighting and tenant signage which create a modern shopping environment with historic visual qualities.
