The remarkable contribution of MNLA’s restoration of the Noguchi Museum garden is the iconic interplay of stone sculpture and mature plants. Though visually unchanged, the garden’s appearance belies the extensive construction that includes complete replacement of the perimeter vine-clad wall as well as new uplighting, reconstructed paths, and a complete irrigation system. The extant plants were selected by Isamu Noguchi, and their protection is of paramount importance to the museum. To ensure this heritage, MNLA made provisions for ivy cuttings and shrub transplants to restore the garden with its original plant species after construction.
