The streets, sidewalks, and open spaces of South Boston’s historic waterfront, now known as the Innovation District, form the fabric of a twenty-first-century live-work neighborhood.

Seaport Square’s recent completion was distinguished by the dedication of the park’s Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial on May 27th. In the heart of the Seaport District, the 50’ reflective steel obelisk, designed by James Carpenter Design Associates, rises as a beacon along Northern Avenue, one block from the harbor’s edge. Speakers including Governor Baker, Mayor Walsh, and retired General Kelly honored Massachusetts Gold Star Families and provided a moving tribute to those we have lost in service in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

The site is located in the heart of the Seaport District, also known locally as the Innovation District. Reed Hilderbrand has created the landscape master plan for the largest urban real estate development in the City of Boston, and the plan includes Seaport Square Park as the centerpiece. This neighborhood will host major new arts facilities, a retail and hotel precinct, and the largest new live-work community ever constructed downtown. Landscape strategies are rooted in the recognition of the site as a landfill in Boston Harbor, and the all the projects in the neighborhood fulfill the principles of sustainable urban development.
