法国市政厅广场Place Hôtel de Ville, Esch-sur-Alzette, LU by Latz + Partner
The Place H?tel de Ville (town hall square) is the first project which was realized in the context of the old town?s redesign.
The beige and grey granite paving stones which ? with the exception of the traffic lanes and a ?ribbon? of granite plates along the facades ? cover the whole place, refer to the colours characterizing the cityscape. The consistency of the surface enlarges the place?s dimensions, enhances the appearance of buildings and streets and highlights structures of historic importance.
The rich history and former prosperity of the town rooted in its position amidst the open cast mining area of the ?Terres Rouges?, is symbolized by four steel plates inserted into the carpet of natural stone in the middle of the square.
The river Alzette, still existing in the town?s name but flowing deeply underneath the present ground level, is revitalized symbolically in the form of a fountain.
