The criteria selected for the refurbishment of the old town of Odena are based upon the implementation of a new structure which brings order to and, at the same time, characterizes the town with simplicity and formal clarity. The design, focused on preserving the rural aspect, structures the public space from the central feature of the Main Square. The numerous spaces, which are fragmented on different existing levels, at Major Square, group together to create an extense related space, which is free from vehicles, opposite the institutional buildings. The use of continuous natural aggregate paving allows good traffic flow, low maintenance as well as quality and simplicity at a very reasonable cost.
