The development of the Cranbrook Junior School landscape has been the result of workshops with teaching staff exploring flexible spaces that best meet teaching, learning and play requirements.
Tilted turf planes, mass planted banks, groves of tree planting, and timber and concrete seating pods are core to the design. The large turf planes allow for whole-of-school gatherings and accommodate passive play. The central courtyards have been designed to read as ‘green spaces’ at the heart of the school.
Etched from these green spaces are small ‘pods’ surrounded by timber and concrete benches. The range of seating opportunities allows both small and large groups to congregate for passive play. These areas are designed to double as learning areas.
Design works also included tennis courts and the re-orientation of sporting fields to the south of the main school.
