Concord Academy is an independent preparatory school located in Concord, MA. The main campus lies adjacent to the Sudbury River where seasonal flooding had compromised the existing athletic fields. The school purchased land one mile from the main campus to develop a new athletic facility to meet the needs of the school’s athletic program. The site was formerly agricultural land where farm operations had been abandoned, and slated for retail development before. SSA designed, restored and repurposed the property into an athletic complex that respected the site history while enhancing existing site ecologies. The design carefully integrates recreational fields with native plants and grasses to separate uses and provide diverse habitat.
