A film archive facility designed in the style of a classical Greek Stoa is situated among mature oak trees and restored native grasses. The project addresses the Stoa, Collection Storage Building, and related site improvements with the primary goal being to provide a natural setting for the complex and a Mediterranean evocation for spaces immediately surrounding the building. Careful attention has been paid to creating the arrival sequence; the new entry gate and wall sets the structure for the landscape setting, introduces the project identity, and provides a first layer of security. The new entry road meanders through the oak grasslands, terminating at the parking court at the top of the hill. The parking court is shaded by mature olive trees that provide an agrarian order to the landscape, as well as an elegant approach. All plant material is drought tolerant and adapted to the hot, cold, windy and dry site, with vegetated roofs and fire lanes employed to further integrate the building into its setting. The perimeter of the court is permeable gravel paving that functions as overflow parking.
