This residence is set in a dense neighborhood of Dallas, adjacent to the Katy Trail. In close collaboration with the architect and client, the focus of the landscape architect’s site design was the creation of a minimal design that optimizes and engages the entire site. A low concrete wall runs parallel with the street curb, defining the entry and creating an architectural extension of the house toward the street. Fitted boulder fields serve to define planting spaces and create visual interest. A west allée of cathedral oaks was planted in an entry court with crushed aggregate surfacing to provide both privacy and a permeable driveway. The resulting landscape offers an understated elegance that complements the architecture.
